Panels Coming Together Nicely

Hi Everyone,

When we put together the SanFran MusicTech Summit, we do it a little differently than other conferences. We have a general idea of which topics are hot, confirm the most interesting folks we can find, and then figure out which panels will be most appropriate considering the folks we have confirmed. So please excuse the delay in posting the panels. :-) We are very proud of the schedule we are pulling together, and realize that not having the panels up until the last minute prevents some folks from deciding to attend. But for those who have faith, it will be worth it. :-)

Now, almost two weeks before the Summit, we’re ready to start posting a few of these panels.

One panel we are extremely proud of is Recording Studios of the Future, featuring some of the leaders envisioning and actually creating the recording studios of the future. This panel includes Bill Putnam Jr. of Universal Audio, David Gibbons of Avid, Mark Either of iZotope, and will be moderated by Mark Wherry of the legendary Remote Control Productions.

All of the panels will be great, but another one which we are particularly thrilled about is on Monetization, Idealism in Practice, featuring Celia Hirschman as the moderator, and such awesome panelists as Ian Rogers from TopSpin, Jim Griffin from Choruss, David Ring from Universal Music Group, Tony Van Ween of Disc Makers, and Fred Von Lohmann of the EFF.

Finally for what we are announcing right now is a great panel on the Future of the Music Industry, featuring Terry McBride of Nettwerk Music Group, Bob Kohn of RoyaltyShare, Antony Randall of TourPro, Robb McDaniels of INgrooves, Kristin Thomson of The Future of Music Coalition, moderated by Heather Rafter, the former General Counsel of DigiDesign.

Of course, everything is subject to change, but we’re all extremely excited about what’s shaping up to be the best SanFran MusicTech Summit yet.

Hope very much to see you there

All the best,

Brian Zisk

O Izakaya Get Together on 10/19/08

To welcome folks coming in from out of town, and to bring together those of us who are in town, we will be having a get together on Sunday October 19th between 5 pm and 7 pm (with people hanging out later) at the O Izakaya Lounge at 1625 Post. The O Izakaya Lounge is located inside the Hotel Kabuki where the SanFran MusicTech Summit will take place the next day. Rated one of the top 100 Restaurants in San Francisco, there is a full menu, as well as a limited happy hour menu which allows folks to reasonably sample some of O Izakaya’s fine food and drinks on a no-host basis. This get together is open to everyone, and if for some reason you are from San Francisco and not attending the Summit, this is a great chance to meet all sorts of out of town (and local) Music/Technology Luminaries. Plus, after you see how fabulous the crowd is, (despite all advance purchase discounts having expired) you might just decide to join us the next day at the Summit. :-)

Look very much forward to seeing you there.

Videos for the last SanFran MusicTech Summit

Videos from about 1/3 of the  sessions at the last SanFran MusicTech Summit are now available online at http://www.sanfranmusictech.com . More will be coming soon, but Copyright Issues in Music Law, Cash Flow, Funding, the interview of Tim Ferriss by Derek Sivers, Social Networks Platforms and Music, Streaming, the Mobile Strategies Panel and more have all made it online, with a bunch more to follow shortly. Very psyched to watch these and recall how great the sessions were, in addition to the phenomenal networking…

Thanks to our Party Sponsors!

Wanted to personally thank everyone who made the SanFran MusicTech Summit such a smashing success. Among the most important (out of many) were three groups of folks who helped ensure that we were able to provide hosted treats at the after Summit party.

First off, we can’t say thank you enough to Craig Austin Becker and David Zurowski of Michael Austin Wines / Somerston Winery. Somerston Winery has recently obtained several thousand acres in Napa, and is dedicated to growing the finest quality grapes, which was easily confirmed by the fabulous wines which they were pouring. The spectacular 2005 Michael Austin “Bad Habit” Red Wine, a blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Grenache was a stunner, and the 2005 Michael Austin “High Flyer” Lodi Viognier was so delicious that we have plans to make this our summer cool down wine.

We have also been lucky enough to have become friends recently with 5th generation winemaker and 1st generation music impresario Karl Wente. After finishing his participation on the Marketing Panel, Karl was pouring some of his Wente Vineyard wines. We’ve tried a number of their wines recently, and have found their small lot Pinot Noir which we picked up at a recent visit to the winery to be especially and notably delicious. Thank you so much Karl and your family, and also to Heidi Richman and Karen Sundell who first connected us with the Wente’s.

And what would a SanFran MusicTech Summit be without Sake2Me Lightly Sparkling Sake Cocktails? We don’t know, as we’re all lucky enough that they were back to provide for the 2nd straight event. Thank you so much to Jeffrey Smith, Tad, and rest of the Sake2Me crew who made this happen.

All in all, the Summit was a smashing success, and the cocktail party was the icing on the cake. It would not otherwise have been nearly as great an event, so we especially want to thank Craig, David, Karl, Jeffrey, and all the other folks involved, and want to urge any and all of you who enjoyed their beverages to buy some for your at home consumption, or almost even better, to ask your local beverage shop whether these brands are being carried, and if not, to urge them to do so.

That would likely be the best way to thank these folks for what they added to the Summit, and would be very much appreciated by both them, and by us. Thanks again to all of you…

Pho Like Dinner Tonight!

Looking forward to seeing several dozen folks tonight between 5 and 7 at O
Izakaya, 1625 Post Street, San Francisco, inside the Hotel Kabuki to
sample Izakaya, Japanese small plate dishes. Last time folks averaged
just under $20 including tax and tip, pretty reasonable for one of San
Francisco’s top 100 restaurants. Everyone pays their own way, but if you’d
like to participate and that is undoable, shoot me an email (or
ping me at the event) and we will arrange a simple way for your tab to be
covered. everyone is invited.

totally psyched that tomorrow’s SanFran MusicTech Summit (with over 400
folks registered) is looking so good. Looking forward to seeing a bunch of
you tonight, and tomorrow….

We’ve still got a number of invites out to some top notch folks, and even have a surprise or two who we believe will be participating, but since they’re known to be flaky, we’re going to pass on letting folks know until we actually see them at the summit. :-)
